The Parque Manuel Bernal is one of the most central of outdoor public parks in Mexico City. It’s a triangular park near the northernmost stretches of the Avenida

Its name honors the memory of Manuel Bernal who was a radio broadcaster. A few older generations of Mexico City residents especially remember his work doing children’s programming. Some historians will credit him as the first Latin American radio producer working exclusively for the children’s market. Widely known as Tío Polito, he died in 1975.

The park is tiny even for Benito Juárez. But entirely rehabilitated in 2017, it got new benches, improved playground equipment, ornamental plants, and free WiFi. Lighting is with new LED lights, and the stone fountain was renovated. But make no mistake. In Del Valle, where the residential towers are as high as the population density, it’s an important little triangle of green.
